Shape. Form. Color. I look for something I know exists but hasn’t manifested yet. I scratch, I dig, I paint until the vision reveals itself. And then I stop before it completely materializes and is of our world not that one.

“You Never Know” - 36” X 48” - Acrylic on Canvas

I imagine I get from these works what adults diagnosed with ADHD get — a calming oscillation that feels like home. I might have done well in the blitzkrieg.

“Invocation” - 24” X 36” - Acrylic on Wood

Everything already exists, it just hasn’t shown itself. The artist is an excavator of the creative realm. The spirit world waits, but not impatiently. It will reveal itself given the right tools and the right coordinates.

“Last Night” - 48” X 36”- Acrylic on Canvas

I wait for days and even weeks until whatever is inside me says “Now!” Then I jump up to the canvas and I have to slow myself down lest I throw paint on the canvas just to relieve the pressure. I breathe, I pace myself, and calm the impulse enough to be sensible. Sensible madness. I say this painting only took 35 minutes, when I’ve been gestating for months.

“Wondering” - 36” X 48” - Acrylic on Canvas

Be open to a new kind of beauty. Be open to a new kind of ugly. Consider switching them. Don’t throw up.

“The Knight” - 24” X 30” - Acrylic on Canvas

Sometimes colors and shapes just go well together, and mean only that. You decide if there is more. I’ve done my job.

“Incandescent” - 24” X 48” - Acrylic on Canvas

I’ve been so tempted to mar the surface of this painting as it dances too closely to being something recognizable. But I’ve left it as is, even as it tortures me with phantoms in the mist.

“Fragile” - 24” X 36” - Acrylic on Wood

We play the game “What is it?”, “What does it mean?” and want an outcome. Just play the game and resist the outcome.

“Galahad” - 36” X 48” - Acrylic on Canvas

Don’t look hard. With a soft gaze let the shapes bring you moments, let the colors entertain you, let the white background be a linen hammock on a warm summer day in the country.

“Hammock” - 36” X 48” - Acrylic on Canvas

The canvas can be a race track. Ready. Set. Go. You are the only racer on the track. And yet you feel the need for speed, and to win. Against no one.

“No Expectations” - 36” X 48” - Acrylic on Canvas
